Maria M. Love Convalescent Fund Community Contributions

In 2010 - 2011, the Maria M. Love Convalescent Fund disbursed over $84,000.00 to  over six hundred individuals referred by over 100 human service agencies in Erie County.

There are five categories of assistance for which donations are requested and dispersed.

  • Convalescent Care: This category generally helps with the cost of durable medical goods that assist with mobility, hearing and speech problems.
  • Transportation: Transportation funds assist with the cost of transportation upon hospital discharge and transportation to rehabilitation treatments.
  • Medications: This category assists with the cost of prescription co-pays and works closely with ECMC, the Catholic Health System and Kaleida to provide immediate refferal to area pharmacies for discharged patients who need assistance with the cost of medications.
  • Food: The Maria Love Fund can assist with the expense of costly dietary needs for newborns and the elderly.
  • Utilities: Limited funds are available for assistance with utility payments.

Additional special requests (on an individual basis) were granted to Haven House for financial assistance for medical and transportation costs; and Food Bank of WNY for assistance in underwriting the purchase of infant formula to be distributed by area food pantries.

Three social service agencies, Buffalo City Mission, Child & Adolescent Treatments Services and tHarvest House Good Neighbors Health Clinic were beneficiaries of a one time grant process. The grants ranged from $5,000 to $7,000 and were used to help with severely under-funded programs.
